Ludwig Münstermann (Winner of 2024 Call for Scores)

My Name is Ludwig Münstermann, I was born in 1999, and I am from Osnabrück, Germany. Due to my upbringing in a artistically inclined family i was exposed to art and music from an early age. My father introduced me to the piano, and I received my first real piano lessons at the age of Five. At Age Ten I started getting lessons for the Clarinet and drums, and a couple of years later I taught myself to play the guitar and bass, having been inspired by guitarists such as George Harrison and John Frusciante. I also played in the high school wind ensemble for a couple of years. While the musical training I got was mostly classical, I did not have much interest in classical music itself, being more interested in pop music and other modern genres.

Having been frustrated by monotonous practicing and Etudes, I naturally trended towards experimenting without any written music and eventually started improvising and coming up with my own ideas. Improvising on the piano has been one of the most freeing experiences I've ever had, and is the main form of expressing my voice, since I'm a rather introverted person outside of music.

After I graduated german highschool in 2019, I got interested in classical music for the first time in 2020. And that's where I began my first attempts at writing notated pieces for orchestral instruments. I did play with the idea of pursuing a career in this field, however due to my inclination towards improvisation and little knowledge of conventional music theory, this turned out not to be an option for me. Instead I am now pursuing a career in manufacturing brass instruments, while using my free time to further my understanding of music and composition by myself. However I do also have hobbies outside of music, which includes studying history, aswell as doing sports like Cycling, Golf and soccer.
