Ivan Varchenko (Honorable Mention of 2024 Call for Scores)

My name is Ivan Varchenko and I was born in the city of Astana, Kazakhstan. I have started my musical journey at the age of 8 as both saxophonist and pianist. Throughout my musical career I have studied in Russia, England and, thanks to the full ABRSM sponsorship, Scotland being the most recent where I have studied with great musicians such as Joe Pacewicz and Tom Wilson.

For the past 15 years I have managed to perform as a soloist and as a part of an orchestra in halls like The Royal Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall, RSNO Centre and many more. Throughout those years I have gained a pot of experience in various musical genres ranging from Celtic Rock and Contemporary Classical to Renaissance and the Baroque Era. In 2023, I have graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a double degree (Performance/Composition) and, currently, apart from composing in my free time, I am a baritone saxophone player of an award-winning Ventus saxophone quartet and a part of an acclaimed saxophone and piano duo with Yenglik Karassartova.
